The antique look of poster bed is attributed to the design of the post which was turned, twisted or fluted. These were the traditional designs of an eighteenth century bed. Further, the sides of the bed were carved in beautiful designs. The poster beds of today, however, have retained the same style- the modern beds have the four posts and canopy; however, they are no longer as ornate as they used to be.
